Group Interviews Definition, Types and Tips

A group interview, sometimes known as a panel interview, can feel even more intimidating than a traditional job interview because there are more people in the room to impress. The key to success is knowing  what you can expect from a group interview. This will help to ease your nerves and also help you understand why companies use these interviews and what is expected of you. Group interviews are sometimes used by admissions committees when interviewing an education program candidate. Some companies also use group interviews to screen job candidates, which will be looked at closer here. Types of Group Interviews There are two basic types of group interviews: Candidate Group Interviews:  In a candidate  group interview, you will most likely be put in a room with other job applicants. In many cases, these applicants will be applying for the same position as you. During a candidate group interview, you will be asked to listen to information about the company and the position, and you may be asked to answer questions or participate in group exercises. This type of group interview is not very common.Panel Group Interviews:  In a  panel group interview, which is much more common, you will most likely be interviewed individually by a panel of two or more people. This type of group interview is almost always a question-and-answer session, but you might also be asked to participate in some type of exercise or test that simulates your potential work environment. Why Companies Use Them An increasing number of companies are using group interviews to screen job applicants. This change could be attributed to the desire to reduce turnover and the fact that teamwork is becoming more critical in the workplace. But the easiest explanation is that two heads are almost always better than one. When more than one person is conducting the interview it reduces the chances of making a bad hiring decision In a group interview, each interviewer will likely look at things differently and bring different questions to the table. For example, a human resources specialist may know a lot about hiring, firing, training, and benefits, but a department supervisor will probably have a better understanding of the day-to-day activities you will be asked to perform if you get the job. If both of these people are on a panel, they will ask you different types of questions.   What Youll Be Assessed On Group interviewers look for the same things other interviewers look for. They want to see a strong candidate who knows how to work well with others and behave properly and competently in a work environment. Specific things group interviewers scrutinize: Your Appearance. Attire, hygiene, and anything else that relates to your physical form will be judged. If you wear too much make-up or cologne, at least one of the interviewers will notice. If you forgot to put on deodorant or match your socks, at least one of the interviewers will notice. Dress well for the interview.Your Presentation Skills. Interviewers will be paying special attention to how you present yourself. Do you slouch or fidget? Do you make eye contact when you converse? Did you remember to shake hands with everyone in the room? Be aware of your body language and what it says about you during an interview.  Your communication skills. No matter what type of job you are applying for, you will need to be able to communicate. Specific skills that group interviewers look for is your ability to listen, follow instructions and get your ideas across.Your interest level. From the time the interview starts until it ends, interviewers will be trying to assess how interested you a re in the job you are applying for. If you seem bored and disengaged during the interview, you will probably be passed by for someone else. Tips to Ace the Interview Preparation is the key to success in any interview, but this is especially true for group interviews. If you make any mistakes, at least one of your interviewers is bound to notice. Here are a few tips to help you make the best impression: Greet all of your interviewers individually. Make eye contact, say hello, and, if possible, shake hands.Dont focus on any one individual. You should make an effort to engage everyone in the group when you are asking or answering questions.Dont show surprise or annoyance when faced with a group interview.Prepare for the group interview by making a list of interview questions that you may be asked and practicing how you might answer them.  If you are interviewed with other candidates it is better to lead than to follow. Interviewers may not remember you if you blend into the background. But dont hog the conversation either or you may not come across as a team player.Skills you will be expected to demonstrate during group interview exercises include leadership skills, your ability to handle stress and pressure, teamwork skills and how well you take and give criticism. Be sure to keep this in mind when you complete the exercises.Thank everyone who interviewed you and remember names and titles so that you can send a written thank you note afterward.

Expanding Our Horizons †Animal Welfare Concerns - 1112 Words

After a state of the art breakthrough at a scientific laboratory, several tested animals became capable of human intellectual capabilities and emotions. During an unseen event, they escape the facility, no longer remaining hostage as test experiments. Ten years pass and now the roles have reversed. These super hybrid animals are now the top of the food chain and humans are their pawns. In a reversal of roles, zoos now hold humans in depicted natural environments and local grocery and department stores are farms where forced humans eat, breed, and slaughter for animal consumption. This change of events became due to years of neglected rights and abuse to the animals. Sounds like the next Hollywood blockbuster movie, right? The†¦show more content†¦The lack of research and public knowledge greatly hindered considerations for animal welfare including fair and ethical treatment. In order for us as humans to understand animals more thoroughly, more research studies are required in order to examine the similarities of animal and human relations. We can further relate with animals if we understand they too have emotions similar to ours and not outcast them due to their species classification. Even as studies and research conducted prove great and remarkable results, the public should be aware of the information generated. With the public aware of such studies, we can finally relate to animals and take in their considerations of how they feel in certain situations. The implications of this are vast ranging from common household pets, livestock, to even captive animals within a zoo. Learning these studies and making this knowledge availab le to the public could provide helpful insight as what to do in treating situations such as coming across a bear in the wild. Research roles of animals have been very beneficial to the human race. Within case studies of animals, such items as vaccinations, cardiovascular bypass surgery, and treatments for cancer have become possible (Medina, 2008). It is important to understand the welfare for animals and the research involved within the process isShow MoreRelatedGenetic Engineering: Rights and Responsibilities2276 Words   |  9 PagesIn an ever-expanding world of technological and scientific innovations in science and medicine, Genetic Engineering is a black sheep among its peers. Survive a Zombie Apocalypse free essay sample

With so many vaccines and medicines being mass produced without the sufficient steps taken to test the results, the chance of humans contracting unimaginable side effects is a rational possibility. If such a disaster occurred, being prepared could save your life. The first key to survival is having a sustainable, zombie-proofed shelter. Whether it is a house, store, RV, or any other building, you will need a safe place to sleep at night. If your town has not yet been ransacked completely by zombies, staying at home in a familiar environment is a good idea. You will need to zombie-proof your house by boarding up all windows and make sure all you doors have sturdy, reliable locks. If you want a larger task, taking on a supercenter such as Wal-Mart will keep you stocked for many years, but securing the entire area would be a very tedious job (How To†¦ Attack). No matter what shelter you seek, make sure it is sturdy and you don’t draw attention to yourself, because no matter how strong the walls are, if a large herd of zombies sight in on your shelter, you have little or no hope of surviving. The second key to survival is food. No food equals no life, so staying stocked is brutally important. After you have established your shelter, focus on the gathering of food. Learning to eat sparingly will be a dire aspect, especially if your group consists of a large number. Water is also important. Although difficult to achieve, a gallon a day per person is a good way to keep track of how much water you need (Khan). If you have taken on a super-market, food is not an issue. If not, going out and gathering as much food as possible is extremely important. Before the outbreak gets too large, getting food will be fairly easy. You just sneak to the closest food supplier and stock up. Getting foods you would normally get for other emergencies such as non-perishable canned and boxed foods is ideal. Also, make sure you have something, if not a can opener, to open your cans with. If you do not have a heat source to heat up foods, concentrate on ready-to-eat, already prepared foods. If and when you are forced to live like a gypsy, you will need to know how to live off the land and eat what is presented to you. You will adopt the hunter-and-gatherer technique to get the sufficient nutrition you need to survive (Khan). The third key to staying alive during a zombie outbreak is your arsenal. Above all, the only way to end the apocalypse and to keep yourself human is to rid the earth of zombies, and the only way to do that is to kill them. Of course guns are extremely important, but other household items that may not have been so obvious can act as brutal weapons. Shovels, knives, hammers, and other large, sharp, or heavy tools work perfect to bash in the brains of the undead (Hilton). Again, if you have taken refuge in a large store, you will have easy access to the weapons you need. If not, it is very important that you stock up on weapons along with food. Both will play a huge role in your survival. Guns are useless without ammo, so do not forget that you can never have to many bullets. Gasoline is also important to have. Whether you want to start a fire or have access to a vehicle, you will need gas. You should cipher gas at any moment you are given the opportunity such as if you see cars that had been attacked and their owners are no longer alive. Other objects such as blankets, spray paint, lighters, and toilet paper could come in handy. Blankets can be used for sleeping with, but also as a tourniquet for wounds. Spray paint can be used to keep track of your trail when you are hunting. Lighters help ease the task of starting a fire. And toilet paper with help you stay sanitary and could also work as a first aide supply. Also, keep in mind, if times get too desperate, all of these things are necessities, and can easily be traded for other things if you need to make a deal (Hilton). The last key to survival is your fitness. If you cannot outrun a zombie, let alone a pack of them, all the other tips are useless. If you are out wandering the streets unarmed and off guard, you will rely on one thing only; running. You will strongly benefit by being in shape when the world is infested with human-eating creatures. You would also benefit by already being in elite condition pre-apocalypse. But if not, and you need to kick it in gear, there are some workouts you can do everyday that are fast and efficient. Jumping jacks, sprints and air squats will strengthen your legs and keep you fast on your feet. Long distance cardio builds up endurance, but what really is important is fast spurts, so concentrate on sprints (How To†¦ Apocalypse). Engaging in parkour would also be heavily beneficial. You never know when or where you will be bombarded and forced to dodge all sorts of obstacles. Parkour allows you to jump, leap, and climb without hassle. Practicing in the woods or in a deserted city with many building is good practice. Being able to leap high up to safety where zombies can not reach could come in handy (How To†¦ Apocalypse). Overall, being human during a zombie apocalypse is not easy work. Life will change drastically and survival itself will be an everyday struggle. You will have to become a skilled artisan at everything you do. You cannot turn your back for a second with your guard down. Make sure your shelter is sturdy and durable, and do not draw attention to it to keep from getting ambushed. When it comes to food, it is a necessity that your supply is abundant. If you are forced to abandon your supply, learn to live off the land. Your arsenal is what will end the apocalypse and keep you alive. Keep your weapons loaded, sharp and ready to use. And lastly, stay fit. Exercise daily and strive to not get bit (Kois). If you beat the odds, and have mastered dodging zombies left and right, you are more than likely going to survive if the outbreak can be ceased. With these tips and your determination to save yourself and man-kind, you might just make it through a zombie apocalypse.
